The Church of Laodicea

Churches are a place where Christians gather.  We gather to learn about the Bible, to sing songs of praise, to eat hot dishes, to have weddings for people in love, and to celebrate the life of loved ones that have passed away.  The Church is a place where Christians have fellowship.  At the Church of Laodicea, Jesus is standing OUTSIDE the church knocking and asking to come in.  Why is Jesus not inside the church?  Have we, in the modern church, politely escorted Jesus off the premises?
